Fossil Springs HikeDifficulty Rating: C+
Imagine, amidst the endless heat of summer in the desert, a three mile hike down a canyon to reach a cool, crystal-clear spring. That is our destination as we head for some spectacular swimming holes, spring-fed by the year-round 72 degree waters of Fossil Springs. Located about 2.5 hours northeast of Phoenix, near the town of Strawberry, this is a 7-mile round trip hike with 1,600' elevation change. We will begin at the top of the canyon, and hike along a trail until we reach the forested creek bottom. There is no shade along most of the trail, so bring sunblock, hat, towel, swimsuit, plenty of water, lunch, money for gas if you are not a driver. Dinner in Payson is an option.
